On Tuesday, August 18, 2009, The Testaverde Fund held their fourth annual Wheels 2 Water surfing event at Ditch Plains in Montauk, New York.   This year’s event showcased one of the largest turnouts in Montauk for both surfers and supporters alike.

There were a total of seven surfers who were given the opportunity to surf in Montauk on that beautiful Tuesday afternoon.  Thanks to Hurricane Bill traveling east of the point, there were chest-high waves that made the surfing conditions ideal for this event.  

The event commenced at 9am, where volunteers helped the surfers down to the beach.  There were four beach chairs, supplied by Wheels 2 Water, which unlike standard wheelchairs, are able to move on the sand and aide the surfers getting into the waves. 

Thanks to the enormous support of the volunteers, getting all seven surfers in and out of the water was seamless.  Their efforts made it possible for the surfers to get an ample amount of surfing time, both before and after lunch. 

This event didn’t stop at surfing.  It encompassed all that Montauk has to offer, while displaying a trait of The Testaverde Fund that seems more than evident to a passer-by: the camaraderie of the surfers, volunteers, and everyone involved in this organization. On Monday, for the event, there was a bonfire and a dinner for everyone who traveled to Montauk
